Rick Waddell is a Major-General in the United State Army Reserves and is the Deputy Commander for Mobilization and Reserve Affairs at US Southern Command. As a civilian, Waddell has served as the CEO for Anglo Ferrous Brazil, Executive Vice President and Managing Director at BG Group, Plc South America, and a Regional Logistics Manager in South America.
His former reserve duty assignments include: Commander, Combined Joint Interagency Task Force – Shafafiyat, J4 (Wartime), US Forces-Korea/United Nations Command-Korea, and Director for Oil, Multinational Forces – Iraq (MNF-I), Baghdad. Prior to his reserve commands, Waddell served as an active duty officer and served as the Director for European Affairs on the National Security Council at the White House, Assistant Professor and Course Director for International Relations, Department of Social Sciences, US Military Academy, and Company Commander, 35th Engineer Battalion, Ft Leonard Wood. He is a graduate of West Point and has a PhD in International Relations from Columbia University. He also holds a masters degree in Modern History and Modern Languages (Portuguese) from Oxford.
